Description

Much maligned as a surf spot but commonly regarded as the beach where the first ever recorded surfing took place in the UK. It's a great fun beach with various breaks at different tide stages. The big lefties off the point are a bitch to paddle to but rewarding when working. However, most fun is had at low tide towards the right side of the beach with short fast lefties and the occasional epic rightie which'll virtually take you all the way across the bay. Mid tide can be great (especially spring and autumn) with poweful hollow beachies as it climbs the sandy ridge. At high tide can be truly messy getting beyond the flats but great fun. Not a classic but on lazy summer evenings with a 4-5ft right hander scudding you across the bay, not many places are as fun. Generally fantastic fun for spongers too. Especially the mental walled-up beachies. So pack a sponge and some fins as well as yer resin or you'll miss out. Does max out when it gets over about 8', but then you pop round to Harlyn or Spot M (especially sponge-heads) for some shelter.
