Description

This is a very long, very good, but inconsistent left pointbreak that can break up to around 1 km long when over 5 feet. In a solid swell it peaks at the very top of the long headland at Shipwreck Bay, and grinds down the length of the point close to the rocks and through to the beach, from about 4 to 10 feet. It links up with the inside bay(Shipwrecks) when over about 5 feet. It's best at about 4-6 feet, it holds up to 10 feet or more (about 3 times overhead), but it tends to section, and there is also a very strong sweep along the point. You paddle out at the top of the point from the beach in front of the headland, or jump off the rocks further down the point. There is a nasty little rock near the top of the point near the takeoff area you need to be aware of. The wave is quite powerful, barrelling and grinding down the point with fast but inconsistent walls, you usually surf a few waves through to the beach, and then walk back. It needs a really solid swell to get around the cape and into the bay, as it is only ever about a quarter to half the size of the open ocean charts, and doesnt work on small swells or high tides (unless the ocean swell is giant). There are several other points even further round the cape, but you need a 4WD, only on low tide, to get there. Inconsistent, but gets 'all time' on occasions.
