Popular to contrary belief, Bruces is in St Francis Bay and not Cape St Francis. It breaks best on 4 days of howling west swell and a South Westerly wind. Can handle upwards of 8" feet of ground swell yet has the tendency to close out. It is situated in a bay and is sheltered from the elements. It is rideable when J Bay is closing out. The worst part is trying to get into the water in big swell. A jump rock called the table top is used and timing is imperative otherwise you get sucked back onto the rocks. Getting out is simple, paddle down to the slipway and let the swell do the rest. In winter, Bruces has minimal crowds unless J Bay is closing out. During summer one can surf it after 3 days of howling onshore or easterly when the surf direction is straight onshore. Accomodation is St Francis is expensive so try the Backpackers in Cape St Francis. This wave does not break often yet more than what surfers actually think. Best waves on low with a pushing tide.
Targeted visitors for a fixed low yearly fee. $135 per year puts your name and link here.
