I've been surfing this spot for two years now and it's so good that when a house came up for sale behind the break I bought it. The waves are best with a W-WNW 20-30 knot wind which gives the swells the best fetch. On a 30 knot day the waves are epic! the waves are driven by part wind and part surge. This area is located in Mexico Bay NY on the SE shore of Lake Ontario. The water pushes in and out in 15 minute cycles. The waves are spread out unlike a typical great lakes wave, and it is in the lee of nine mile point so you don't really get a lot of wind, just sweet waves. When the water starts to ebb paddle out to the break. when it starts to flood you will know it by waves doubling in size. You can catch a wave and ride it as it breaks around a small point and into a cove by my friends house who has a nice boat ramp to climb up. It's an unusual spot, on a flat glassy day waves can pop up from an approaching high pressure system on the west end of the lake. I've used both short boards fun boards and a longboard for the small stuff. The locals are a bunch of friendly folks that love to get drunk and watch us surf. If you show up when the wind is right you will not be dissapointed.
