Introduction on surfing in Nicaragua: Nicaragua has a wealth of
excellent spots, both beach breaks and reefs. However,
transportation, roads, and tourist infrastructure is limited and
most of the best spots are in remote areas either far off the main
road, where 4x4 is preferred and perhaps no accommodations exist, or
accessible only by boat. By far one of the best breaks in the
country is called Quizala, and is the closest spot to
Managua. There are several other breaks heading south, but many
are only accessible by boat until you reach San Juan Del Sur. From
there you can head south on the dirt road for several other spots,
one called Playa El Yanqui. This is a barreling right that can be
gnarly and closed out or clean and hollow depending on the swell
direction and tide. Have
fun!
Climate: Nicaragua has a tropical
climate with two seasons. A wet season from May to January and a dry
season from January to mid May, combined with three climatic zones.
(1.) A wet tropical, (2.) a wet and dry tropical and (3.) a mild
highland. Average annual precipitation in Managua is 1,140 mm (35
inches) and average temperature ranges are from 20 degrees Celsius
(68 degrees Fahrenheit) to 44 degrees Celsius (93 degrees
Fahrenheit) all year
