Introduction on surfing in Tonga: Tonga is located in the South
Pacific, and it's waves are generated from lows off southern
Australia, seasonal cyclones and North Pacific storms. The swells
that pound Hawaii also reach south to Tahiti, Samoa and
Tonga.
Climate: Tonga has a
subtropical climate characterized by warm period from December to
April and a cool period from May to November, with most rainfall
occurring during the warm period. Average annual precipitation is
1,680 mm (66 inches) and the prevailing winds are the SW trade
winds. Average temperature ranges in Nuku'alofa are from 18 to 25
degrees Celsius (64 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit) in July to 23 to 29
degrees Celsius (73 to 84 degrees Fahrenheit) in February.
